SAN ISIDRO LLEGÓ Y MADRID LO CELEBRÓ
As every year, Madrid held its biggest and most important feast and the whole city celebrated it. 15th May arrived and, this 2017, we could enjoy a warm weather and radiant sun. These feast days were perfect to rest but also to have fun next to river Manzanares area, the place known as Pradera de San Isidro, this is, Saint Isidore Prairie. This year, 15th May was Monday so, from Friday we could enjoy 4 excellent days full of cultural plans.
Madrid City Council, as well as different brands and shops, and all those who feel the feast did not skimp on efforts organizing many events for people of all ages and tastes.
For those of us who spent this holiday here, the Pradera was the center of the feast. In San Isidro area (next to river Manzanares, close to Puerta de Toledo) the feast began and people could enjoy the products of the market stalls: craft, food and drinks. Live music was extremely important, together with traditional music. The youngest ones could discover the Chotis traditional dance performed by experts of the art of dancing without moving not a millimeter. The most authentic folk typical from Madrid was very present. People wear the traditional costumes (she, as a chulapa; him, as a chulo). Colour and beauty, splendour in the grass
In addition to Pradera de San Isidro, the feast also was celebrated in more than 20 spots of the city: people could enjoy free concerts in Plaza Mayor, las Vistillas, Puerta del Ángel, the rose area of Parque del Oeste and Olavide, Pedro Zerolo and Los Carros; you could enjoy classical music in El Retiro park and the Temple of Debod as well as in the magnificent square next to the Royal Palace of Madrid. Also, poetry and beatbox in Conde de Barajas, dance in plaza de Oriente and sports in Madrid Rio area, next to Manzanares river, as well as in the central avenue of Paseo del Prado. And lots of different activities, as explained in the official webpage http://www.sanisidro.com/
Lots of open-air activities to enjoy with one’s partner, friends or family. The family was very important, children had activities especially conceived for them. Kids could enjoy the feast discovering bioculture, sustainable agriculture, plays and sports activities such as yoga and popular races.
Undoubtedly, fun and unique days to enjoy the first days of Spring. We are looking forward to next San Isidro, in 2018!
