La gran fiesta del respeto aterriza en Madrid: World Pride 2017
One more year, Gay Pride celebrations start in Madrid. This year, celebrations are more important than ever since this 2017 we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first demonstration held in Spain for gay rights. This demonstration took place back in 1977, when nobody could expect that gay pride would become such important celebration. Also, this year is extremely special since Madrid is the pride world capital and you will notice it in the streets, since Madrid will welcome more than 3 million people. It is expected that the city will earn more than 300 million euros during the 10 days of World Pride.
Since last week, Madrid is already immersed in an omnipresente rainbow that brings respect and love to everybody. Madrid says that, Whoever you Love, Madrid loves you, this is “Ames a quien ames, Madrid te ama”. Lots of activities will take place in the city: live music, dances, parades and.. partying.
Today, Wednesday 28th June, is the most important day of the celebrations since it’s officially the Pride Day. Tonight, the Rainbow Night takes place in Madrid (more specifically, in Puerta del Sol) and this will be the starting point of the World Pride Park until the next 2th July. Also, in the heart of Chueca, we will enjoy the Pride Official Announcement in Pedro Zerolo square. Pedro Zerolo was a beloved gay socialist politician who died short ago.
Never ending parties, live music, fun. Everything is ready for Saturday 1st July: the big demonstration of World Pride 2017 (which is expected to be one of the biggest pride events in the world) will start in Atocha station and will tour the city until its end in Colon square. Everybody will celebrate diversity, respect and the freedom to love whoever you like.
Under the motto “Viva La Vida” chosen to commemorate the 40 years of such 1977 demonstration, the city is ready and focused in the celebrations. Also, the Autonomous University of Madrid is focused in this important event: some meetings, conferences and events will be held, people with HIV will share their experiences in order to help people. Also, the Arab House in Madrid will share the situation of LGTB people in the Middle East.
You will find lots of appointments and freedom to choose during these days. Go ahead with the celebrations of gay pride and respect.
